Exclusive: Ransom Canyon Creator Says Quinn’s Exit Could Spark a Major Time Jump

If Netflix decides to renew Ransom Canyon for Season 2, the new episodes will have a lot to unpack. Killers were revealed, true colors were shown, and characters just went away. It’s a lot to process, which is why the series’ next moments won’t take place immediately after the end of Season 1. During an interview with TV Insider, showrunner April Blair (Wednesday) revealed that there might be a time jump between the freshman and sophomore seasons of the hit show.

Blair revealed that one of the reasons why the series would jump in time is because, by the end of Season 1, Quinn (Minka Kelly) announced that she was leaving and stated exactly how long she’d be out. The showrunner also broke down some other reasons why it would feel right to not pick up immediately where they left off in the heartbreaking Season 1 finale. She stated:

“We would need to because I don’t want to do anything in New York. Quinn needs to go away and save her ranch, and we need to see what the implications are for that punch that Davis goads Staten into doing and what that plot between Davis and Staten’s father, the senator, is like. I think we would probably do that because she says, ‘I’m going to go away for six months.’ So the idea right now, although nothing’s set in stone, is that we would do at least a six-month time jump.”

‘Ransom Canyon’ Is One of the Most Popular Netflix Shows This Month

Even though Ransom Canyon has been in the Netflix library since April 17, the series is still drawing massive numbers and grabbing the attention of a huge slate of subscribers. This past week, the series accumulated 2.5 million views and ranked at #5 among the most-watched titles globally on the platform, outranking established shows like Black Mirror.

Despite its popularity, Netflix has yet to renew Ransom Canyon for Season 2. We don’t know why the streamer is taking so long to make a decision – maybe they’re waiting to see if it keeps up big numbers and will grant it a two-season renewal? We will only find out when the decision is made. For now, we will have to sit with the events from the Season 1 finale and hope that we get to find out how the story will continue.
