Celebrating dads!
Bachelor Nation fans got to know Gerry Turner on Season 1 of “The Golden Bachelor” and we were introduced to his wonderful family.
Gerry has two daughters — Angie and Jenny — and two granddaughters who he spends a ton of time with.
Now, in honor of Father’s Day, Gerry is opening up exclusively to BachelorNation.com about parenthood and what it means to be a dad.

Bachelor Nation: Hi, Gerry! Thank you so much for chatting with us. What does being a dad mean to you?
Gerry Turner: Thank you for having me! Being a dad and grandpa is the absolute best. It also means I get really good birthday and Christmas presents, ha!
BN: Love it! What is your ideal way to celebrate Father’s Day?
GT: Oh, the perfect Father’s Day would be a round of golf and a big family cookout. Get me a banana cream pie to go with that and it’s pure heaven for me!
BN: That sounds like a dream day! How would you say fatherhood has changed you over the years?
GT: Fatherhood made a better listener. It made me calmer. And, it makes me paranoid every time the phone rings and I see one of my daughters’ numbers pop up. No matter how old you are, you never stop being a dad.
BN: Absolutely. What has surprised you most about fatherhood?
GT: It’s gotta be how you can become close friends with your kids after years of them doing such dumb stuff when they were young.
BN: Yes, that is so special. What is a piece of advice you have for fellow parents/grandparents?
GT: I have two pieces of advice. First, always love them like you will never see them again, and second, don’t believe a word they say until they are over 21 years old.
BN: Some good words of wisdom! How do you think your kids and grandkids would describe you?
GT: My kids would say that I’m patient, a good listener, and a huge cheerleader for them. The grandkids would probably say the same and also add that they think I’m old-fashioned.
BN: What do you hope that your kids and grandkids learn from you?
GT: I hope they learn to never give up on a goal, to persevere even during tough times, and to ALWAYS stay positive!
BN: That’s amazing! Do you have a proudest moment as a dad?
GT: It’s funny because my proudest moment is always changing. Each time I see them, no matter what the circumstances, is my new proudest moment.
BN: How sweet! What are you most looking forward to doing with your kids and grandkids in the future?
GT: Now, I just want to keep aging gracefully and talking about the “good old days” with them.
