Alexandra Breckenridge and Ryan Eggold reunite for Netflix’s new holiday rom-com My Secret Santa, dropping December 3. The former Dirt co-stars play Taylor, a single mom who takes a job as Santa at a ski resort, and Matthew, the resort’s manager.
To go undercover as St. Nick, Breckenridge wore prosthetics, a wig, and a full beard — a process she says was “pretty wild.” “The first time they put the pieces on without the beard, I looked like the witch from Snow White,” she laughs. But once the full look came together, she was “completely unrecognizable,” which convinced her the movie would work. The transformation initially took three hours, eventually speeding up to about 90 minutes.
Breckenridge also loved that Taylor was once a rocker and free-spirited musician — a rare backstory for a Christmas-movie heroine. Eggold enjoyed Matthew’s arc from carefree playboy to someone who begins to grow up and find meaning.
Eggold jokes that reuniting with Breckenridge was “brutal,” but admits he joined the project because she texted him about playing Santa. “She said, ‘Do you want to come make out with me while I have a beard?’” he recalls. “I said, ‘Naturally. For the movie, of course.’”
