As if The Bachelor and The Bachelorette weren’t enough to feed our reality TV fixation, the franchise has expanded into multiple spin-offs over the years. See: Bachelor in Paradise, Bachelor Pad, The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart…and that’s not even all of them. As Charity Lawson recently got engaged on the latest season of The Bachelorette, #BachelorNation is already deeply invested in another show: The Golden Bachelor.
What’s the twist in this new series, you ask? Retired restaurateur, father, and grandfather Gerry Turner is ready to find love again after his wife of 43 years, Toni, suddenly passed away in 2017. As the first-ever Golden Bachelor, Gerry—who is 72 years old, BTW—proves that it’s never too late to find love again. Upon the series premiere, Gerry also graced us with this real (and tbh, iconic) quote in an interview with the New York Times: “I don’t know what it means to be a ‘grandzaddy’ and I don’t know what ‘rizz’ is, and I really don’t know what it means to be trending. All those things are kind of immaterial to me. They don’t matter,” he said. What does matter, though, are the 22 ladies who are ready to receive Gerry’s roses on The Golden Bachelor.
