Kunal Nayyar, who was nervous at the prospect of kissing his dream girl, confessed to getting tired after too many takes.
Like Raj, who was known for struggling to initiate a conversation with women, especially in the earlier episodes, Kunal Nayyar found himself in a similar boat when his dream girl arrived on set. Being a fan of The Wonder Years, which was one of his favorite shows growing up, Nayyar confessed that its lead, Danica Mckellar, was his first celebrity crush.
Although he got the opportunity to kiss her following her guest appearance in The Big Bang Theory, surprisingly, the process got a little tiring for the actor.
Kunal Nayyar got a bit tired of kissing Danica McKellar repeatedly
Considering Danica Mckellar’s Winnie Cooper was the woman of his dreams as a kid, Kunal Nayyar was reasonably nervous when the actor was informed that he had to share a kiss with McKellar in the episode, The Psychic Vortex. After spending the whole night tossing and turning around at the prospect of kissing his celebrity crush, for the scene, the actor recalled wondering “how I could pull off an ‘I don’t care’ cool look”.
It also didn’t help that the scene wasn’t a one-and-done, as Nayyar confessed to growing a bit tired after locking lips with Mckellar far too many times, as they had to shoot the scene half a dozen times. In his book, Yes, My Accent is Real (via Nicki Swift), he penned:
I erred on the side of caution and kept my lips sealed like a fish. It was a long, loooooong kiss.
But despite his nervousness, Nayyar deemed the experience awesome, joking, “Note to the writer of this episode: I owe you a Rolex”, and the episode itself was received pretty well among fans.
Danica McKellar was excited about being in TBBT
While the Spaceman star couldn’t help but overthink about kissing his dream girl on the set of The Big Bang Theory, Mckellar on the flip side had a pretty contrasting viewpoint. Being no stranger to the art of smooching onscreen, as opposed to Nayyar’s nervousness, Mckellar, per the TBBT star, was only occupied with the thought of being on “this great show”. Nayyar recalled (via The Independent):
I remember wondering how I could pull off an ‘I don’t care’ cool look. It felt like being in high school again. Of course, it was all in my head; all she was thinking was, ‘I’m going to be on this great show.’
Given how his character struggled with women in the earlier seasons before eventually jumping into some notable relationships in the show, the feat of kissing his first celebrity crush as Raj is nothing to scoff at.
