“From Ashes to Ocean Rain” — The NCIS: LA Star Finds Hope After Losing His Family Home
Just six months after a devastating wildfire destroyed their beloved Pacific Palisades home, NCIS: Los Angeles alum Eric Christian Olsen and his wife Sarah Wright Olsen have joyfully welcomed their fourth child, a baby girl with a name as poetic as her parents’ journey: Ocean Rain Olsen.
🍼 Born June 17 at 12:37 a.m., weighing 11 lbs 4 oz — a powerful symbol of new life after loss.
🔥 From Tragedy…
Back in January 2025, the Olsens’ $1.35 million home — filled with 13 years of memories — was among the first claimed by the Los Angeles wildfires. Sarah posted an emotional statement on Instagram, revealing their heartbreak:
“It’s so hard to say goodbye to our gorgeous town, our special school and this place we have loved for 13 years,” she wrote.
“But we are so so grateful we are together and for the outpouring of love.”
The family found refuge with none other than “Uncle Dave and Aunt Dani” — David Paul Olsen, Eric’s brother, and Daniela Ruah, his NCIS: LA co-star and sister-in-law.
💗 …To a Miracle
Fast forward to June, and their family of five became six with the arrival of Ocean Rain, a name that reflects the couple’s deep connection to nature, rebirth, and healing.
In a tender Instagram announcement, the pair shared five heartwarming images:

“Grateful beyond words for our amazing team that helped us get her here safely during an incredibly complex birth,” they wrote.
“Cannot wait to share all the details of this day.”
Actress and close friend Nikki Reed stayed through the night to capture these intimate moments, lending her photography skills to what the Olsens call “the most meaningful day.”
🎬 A Family of Resilience
The NCIS: LA fan favorite, now 48, is channeling his energy into a new role behind the scenes as executive producer of CBS’ Matlock reboot, starring Kathy Bates. In an emotional tribute at the Critics Choice Awards, Bates dedicated her award to Olsen, calling him a beacon of hope and strength.
Olsen later shared:
“These acts of love came to a stunning crescendo… Kathy gave an acceptance speech that I can only describe as one of the most life-affirming and work-affirming moments ever.”
🌈 What’s Next for the Olsens?
The family now includes:
-
Wyatt Oliver, 11
-
Esme Olivia, 8
-
Winter Story, 4
-
And their newest light: Ocean Rain, born in the calm after the storm
As Olsen said, it’s not about tragedy — it’s about transformation:
“There’s a lot of obstacles… but we’re doing good.”
