Eileen Davidson Reflects on the Daytime Emmys — and the Costar Who Deserved More Recognition md23

Eileen Davidson, who plays Ashley Abbott on The Young and the Restless, recently discussed her 2025 Daytime Emmy nomination. The actress, known for portraying Ashley’s emotional journey with dissociative identity disorder, also shared which of her Y&R costars she feels should have received a nomination. Davidson’s answer shows deep love for her co-star, Melody Thomas Scott, who plays Nikki Newman.

In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Eileen Davidson said she was surprised when The Young and the Restless publicist Matt Kane called to tell her about her 2025 Emmy nomination. She shared, “I was in my office writing when my phone rang. I knew nominations were coming that week, but I wasn’t expecting the call.”

The storyline for Ashley gave her plenty of emotional material, but choosing scenes for her Emmy reel wasn’t easy. “I had one week where I had about 80 pages of dialogue. There were a lot of colorful moments, but I couldn’t remember all the good ones.” She asked costars Beth Maitland and Matt for help and eventually picked emotional family scenes instead of the more confusing alter-ego ones where she appeared as Ms. Abbott.

Her husband Vincent and son Jesse also helped her choose, with Davidson admitting, “So they were very helpful, actually, as was my niece. So yeah, it took a village.” Several Y&R stars Sharon Case (Sharon), Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea), and Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) were also nominated this year.

However, Eileen Davidson said she was thrilled for them but wished one more name had been added to the list. She said Melody Thomas Scott, who plays Nikki Newman, also deserved the nomination. She said, “But the one person I would have thought should have definitely been Mel.”

Davidson shared that she’s planning to bring her therapist to the upcoming Emmys, as she had predicted her nomination. Her husband, Vincent, will join her since the event falls on his birthday.

Eileen Davidson is excited for the big night and proud of her Young and the Restless co-stars, especially her costar and friend, Melody Thomas Scott, whom she believes truly earned a place among this year’s nominees.
