Don’t Miss the Sheriff Country Premiere — Full Release Schedule Inside md11

Sheriff Country stars Emmy-award nominee Morena Baccarin, known for her work on cult classics like Firefly and V. The highly anticipated spin-off premieres this fall and also stars Matt Lauria, W. Earl Brown, Michele Weaver, and Christopher Gorham.

Who Is Morena Baccarin’s Sheriff Mickey Fox?

Sheriff Country will follow Sheriff Mickey Fox, “a straight-shooting sheriff in the small rural town of Edgewater, Calif., and stepsister of Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone, who must balance the demands of law enforcement with the complexities of motherhood, community politics, and a past that won’t stay buried.” Fox first appeared in Fire Country’s second season when one of the convicts made a run for it after a terminal diagnosis. The Sheriff’s department led the search for the fugitive, bringing Sharon together with her estranged stepsister and a Sheriff’s Deputy.

It turned out Mickey was the one who arrested Bode, and Sharon felt judged by her sister because Mickey’s daughter was perfect. When Sharon tried to apologize to Mickey, Mickey wasn’t initially willing to accept. A month prior to their reluctant reunion, Mickey had reached out to Sharon, but Sharon had ignored her call. Skye, Mickey’s daughter, began abusing drugs and went to rehab. Mickey tried to call Sharon when it happened and was still upset at being ignored. When Sheriff Watkins is murdered, Sharon refuses to leave Mickey’s side, and the sisters can mend their broken relationship.

In Baccarin’s second appearance on Fire Country, audiences met her drug-dealing father, Wes, who grows weed illegally. Her daughter Skye had relapsed and was back in rehab. Wes had apparently been turning Skye against her mother, and Mickey responded by not letting Wes talk to Skye anymore out of fear that Skye would end up like Wes—a criminal. In the heat of the argument, Wes shouted that he would leave everything he had to Skye, unknowingly turning his right-hand man, Ozzie, against him. Ozzie tries to kill Wes, and Mickey works with Bode to track down Ozzie and Wes before they kill each other. The episode ended with Mickey telling Sharon that she had asked her father to go legit so he could be a part of her life, but he said, ‘No.’

When talking about her character to TV Insider, Morena Baccarin said, “They’ve surrounded this woman that is fiercely black-and-white about what’s right and wrong with these characters, who are very gray. Skye is struggling with drug addiction, and to have a mom who’s a cop, I can’t imagine anything worse for a child that age with the troubles that she’s having. And then Mickey’s dad grows weed illegally. It’s like you can’t make this stuff up!” Baccarin laughs. “It gives such a complex dynamic to all of her relationships.”

When Does the Sheriff Country Season 1 Premiere Air?

Sheriff Country will premiere on October 17th at 9 pm after the season four premiere of Fire Country. The following week, Sheriff Country will air in its regular time slot at 8 pm, serving as a lead-in to Fire Country. The official synopsis of the spin-off’s premiere reads, “When a young boy is caught stealing food, Mickey uncovers a disturbing case of child abuse that leads to a high-stakes rescue and a cliffside standoff that could cost lives. Meanwhile, Mickey’s daughter Skye is newly sober, but her path to sobriety is complicated by her relationship with a troubled young man whom her mother arrested.”

The premiere will guest star Max Thieriot as Bode, Mickey’s nephew, from Fire Country. With the first case involving a case of child abuse, the series is already delivering darker storylines. Series creator Matt Lopez pointed out that the enemies in Fire Country are the elements and nature, whereas in Sheriff Country, they are humans committing horrible acts. Mickey’s partner, Nathan Boone, is played by Matt Lauria and is described as “more trigger-happy” than Mickey. When asked if there was any chance of romance between the partners, Baccarin responded, “They really are great partners at work, and you get the sense that there’s something else underneath, but neither of them, no…it’s just not even on the table.”

According to TV Insider, “The pilot reveals that her father, Wes, has finally gone legit, and with that comes his newfound interest in reconnecting with his daughter and granddaughter.” In addition to the complex dynamics of Mickey’s relationship with her family, she will also have to contend with her ex-husband, Travis, played by Christopher Gorham. Baccarin teased the relationship with Travis, saying, “We get in some pretty drag-out fights as the season goes on. There’s a lot of resentment there [because] she wanted to keep working on the marriage, and he’s the one who wanted it to end. There’s a lot of wounds that are still kind of left open.”
