Theresa, who celebrated her 70th birthday on the first night of The Golden Bachelor season 1, took a heartfelt journey throughout the season as viewers got to know her. While Theresa spent the majority of The Golden Bachelor with the rest of the cast, her time with Gerry quickly became more serious as the pair fell for one another. After a whirlwind romance, Gerry and Theresa were married this past January.

In an Instagram post, Theresa explained that she hopes people can walk away from her Golden marriage with some perspective. “To everyone who has expressed love, support and kindness to me I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Theresa shared. “For everyone else who is confused and angry and who does not understand, please try to find it in your heart to understand and to try a little kindness.”
Theresa explained that she was hopeful that viewers would understand that she and Gerry simply want each other to be happy, and because they aren’t able to find a conducive living situation that works for both of them, it’s been difficult. “It turns out, even at the age of 70, you don’t know everything. Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned and that’s okay,” Theresa shared. “I ask you to please stay open to all the experiences, opportunities, and love that may come your way.”
Gerry & Theresa’s Relationship Issues, Explained
While Theresa and Gerry have had a beautiful love story, their relationship had issues large enough that they chose to dissolve their marriage rather than work through them together. In her post, Theresa shared she takes “so many positives away from this experience, most importantly and above all the incredible friends I now have in all of these amazing, wonderful women.” While she’s respectful of Gerry in her post, she’s focusing on the parts of her experience outside of her short-lived marriage to celebrate moving forward.
