For Donnie Wahlberg, wrapping Blue Bloods after 14 seasons wasn’t just the end of a job—it was the end of an era. Speaking on People magazine’s special feature about the series finale, Wahlberg revealed, “I cried for two days. I couldn’t stop. The last family dinner scene was the hardest. We all knew what it meant.”
Wahlberg’s emotional farewell comes with a twist: he’ll be reprising his role as Danny Reagan in the upcoming spinoff Boston Blue. But even as he steps into a new story, Wahlberg assures fans that the heart of Blue Bloods—its core values of loyalty, justice, and family—will live on.
“I’ve played Danny Reagan for over a decade and a half. He’s part of me. The idea that I get to continue his story while also introducing new voices and experiences in a new city? That’s exciting,” he said.
Wahlberg also praised the original cast, from Tom Selleck to Marisa Ramirez, calling them “a family for life.” While Blue Bloods as we knew it has concluded, the Reagan name—and its ideals—are far from finished.
