Months after the series finale of “Blue Bloods,” starring actor Donnie Wahlberg is back in his hometown of Boston to film a spinoff of the detective series, “Boston Blue.”
Set in Boston, the new show will continue to follow Donnie Wahlberg’s character Danny Reagan as he changes scenes from New York City to Boston. With the spinoff set to release in the fall, Wahlberg and camera crews are currently hard at work filming throughout the city.
Here’s where Wahlberg has been spotted filming “Boston Blue.”
What is ‘Boston Blue’?
According to a press release from CBS Entertainment, “Boston Blue” is a universe expansion of “Blue Bloods” set in Boston.
The drama series will follow NYPD officer Danny Reagan, Wahlberg’s reprised role, as he moves to Boston and takes a job with Boston PD. Once there, Reagan will be paired with “detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family” in the city.
While plot details are unclear, the show can be expected to pick up from where “Blue Bloods” left off in the series finale, during which Reagan asked out his partner Maria Baez.
However, so far, CBS has not announced whether Baez or any other members of the “Blue Bloods” cast will join Wahlberg in the spinoff. Confirmed cast members of “Boston Blue” include Sonequa Martin-Green of “Star Trek: Discovery,” Ernie Hudson of the original “Ghostbusters,” Maggie Lawson of “Psych” and “The Better Sister” star Gloria Reuben.
Where in Boston is ‘Boston Blue’ being filmed?
While no exact filming locations have been confirmed by CBS, Wahlberg was spotted with a camera crew in downtown Boston earlier this week.
According to posts on social media, Wahlberg was seen filming near the Park Street T station on Monday, Aug. 4. Specifically, Wahlberg walked past the Granary Burying Ground and through the Boston Common, at one point running through the Common for a foot chase scene.
How to watch ‘Boston Blue’
Wahlberg’s new show will premiere on Friday, Oct. 17 at 10 p.m. on CBS, and will continue to air on Fridays at 10 p.m., the time slot formerly filled by “Blue Bloods.” All episodes will be available for streaming the day after release on Paramount+.
