Premiering in 1960 on CBS, The Andy Griffith Show quickly became one of the most beloved and influential sitcoms in American television history. The series was set in the fictional small town of Mayberry, North Carolina, where Sheriff Andy Taylor (played by Andy Griffith) kept order while raising his young son Opie (Ron Howard) after losing his wife. With a total of eight seasons and 249 episodes, the series was notable not only for its unique main characters but also for its impressive guest cast — including Jan Shutan as Gloria in the season 5 episode “Guest in the House.” In this episode, Gloria — a longtime friend of the Taylor family — temporarily stays at the home of her Aunt Bee (Frances Bavier) after breaking up with her fiancé.
