Unlike Young Sheldon, which transitioned to a single-camera format, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is embracing the multi-camera style and will be filmed in front of a live studio audience, similar to The Big Bang Theory. Ahead of its premiere on Thursday, Oct. 17, CBS has shared a sneak peek that showcases how the sequel series cleverly addresses this format change in a meta way.

In a clip from the series premiere, Georgie (Montana Jordan) is seen watching a new episode of Frasier with Jim (Will Sasso) and Audrey (Rachel Bay Jones). As laughter emanates from the TV, Georgie turns to his in-laws and exclaims, “Frasier’s a laughin’ show. I love laughin’ shows.” When Audrey looks puzzled, Georgie explains the distinction between multi-cam and single-cam: “Some shows you can hear people laughin’, and some you can’t.”

He compares it to The Wonder Years, noting, “No one’s laughin’. Is it funny? We’ll never know!” Audrey, representing viewers who prefer traditional sitcoms, replies, “I like to laugh when I choose to,” to which Georgie retorts, “I ain’t ever seen you laugh.”

In an April interview with TVLine, Emily Osment expressed her excitement about the shift from single-cam to multi-cam. “I’ve paid my dues with multi-cam, and it’s so fun,” said the Hannah Montana and Young & Hungry star. “It’s a completely different experience… my favorite part is the live audience, feeling like you’re doing a new play every week. It ignites something new in your performance, and it’s wonderful.”

More recently, in a conference call with reporters, Jordan, who is new to multi-cam, shared his thoughts on his first tape night. “I didn’t know what to expect, but I didn’t know what to expect at the beginning of Young Sheldon, either,” he said. “Somehow, thank God, I got through that, so I’m going to do my best. Every week, we work hard to bring Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage to life, and I’m enjoying every bit of it. Filming is electric, energetic, and really fun!”
