Bernadette’s dark confession about unethical experiments shocked fans, making it one of the most brutal moments in The Big Bang Theory.
The Big Bang Theory ended almost six years ago, but fans still cannot stop talking about it. Along with the scientific jabs and humor, the show also presented a stellar ensemble, including Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, and Kaley Cuoco, to name a few. Later, several other faces also joined the show, and it’s safe to say that they truly established their place in the storyline as well. One such face was actress Melissa Rauch, who played Bernadette.
While she was brought in as a love interest for Howard, several problematic elements about her soon came to the surface. However, during one particular episode, she said something that can easily be considered one of the worst things she could have said on the show.
The worst thing that Melissa Rauch’s Bernadette ever said on The Big Bang Theory
The characters always spent a lot of time together on The Big Bang Theory. While this was definitely true for the guys, the ladies also had their own unique wine nights. However, one such get-together quickly got out of hand when Bernadette made a very dark confession. While a laugh track was used after this on the show, in reality, this was easily one of the worst lines she could have said on the sitcom.
While at Penny’s apartment, Amy was talking about her latest research at Caltech. She was leading a study to determine whether a deficiency of the monoamine oxidase enzyme could trigger an extreme fear response in monkeys. Bernadette immediately mentioned that if they were anything like humans, then the answer was yes.
This obviously left Amy confused, and she asked if Bernadette had done this experiment on humans. Bernadette then implied that such tests had been conducted on death row inmates with nothing to lose. Though she quickly added that such a thing would be very unethical, the remark left both Amy and Penny exchanging shocked looks.
The same moment was brought up by a Reddit user who listed some of the worst things Bernadette had done on the show. However, they weren’t alone—others joined in, detailing their own picks for her most questionable moments.
Throughout the series’ run, Bernadette has received mixed reactions from viewers. While some love her for being a strong pillar of support for Howard after his mother’s passing, others think she is outright mean and constantly reminds her husband that she earns more than him.
Whatever the case may be, nobody can deny that what she said about the death row inmates was definitely one of the most brutal statements ever made on The Big Bang Theory.
Bernadette was supposed to appear only in one episode of TBBT
When The Big Bang Theory first started in 2007, the main cast only included five actors: Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, Kunal Nayyar, Simon Helberg, and Kaley Cuoco. Over time, the show introduced new characters to the storyline who became an important part of the gang. These starts were were Melissa Rauch as Bernadette and Mayim Bialik as Amy.
While they received a lot of love from the audience, only one was originally meant to be a guest star for just a single episode. This was none other than Melissa Rauch’s Bernadette.
During an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show in 2023, Rauch shared how unexpected her journey on the show was. She admitted that just a week before landing the role, she was at the unemployment office, struggling to find work. When she was cast as Bernadette, she thought it would be just a short-term gig.
At first, she was only meant to be in one episode, then a few more, and before she knew it, she had become a series regular. She described the experience as overwhelming and said she was incredibly grateful for how things turned out.
