In Netflix’s cozy holiday rom-com My Secret Santa, Alexandra Breckenridge plays Taylor, a former rock musician whose life takes a detour into Santa Claus territory. By the film’s finale, Taylor steps back into the spotlight for a heartfelt musical performance — but was that really Breckenridge singing?
The Virgin River star says no.
“It’s not my voice,” she admitted to Us Weekly. “I almost sang it, but that scared me more than playing Santa Claus.”
While she didn’t lend her vocals to the track, Breckenridge did play guitar in the scene — something she felt a bit more confident about thanks to playing when she was younger. Even so, the song proved challenging: “It was shockingly hard to play because of the reach, and I have very tiny pinkies,” she joked.
Filming the performance in freezing temperatures didn’t help either.
“I practiced many, many times,” she told WTHR News. “But once I got out in that cold, I could barely move my fingers. I think I almost got frostbite.”
Alongside the musical moment, the movie also leans into a sweet romance between Taylor and Matthew (Ryan Eggold), and Breckenridge had fun with the transformation required for her undercover Santa scenes.
“The first time they put the pieces on, without the beard and wig, I looked like a witch from Snow White,” she laughed in an interview with Swooon.
So no, that wasn’t Alexandra’s singing voice — but the guitar playing, the humor, and the heart were all her.
