Dermot Mulroney on Why the One Chicago Crossover Will Feel Like a Three-Hour Blockbuster

Dermot Mulroney, celebrated for his work in films like Anyone But You, has recently made waves in television with his role as Chief Pascal on NBC’s hit series Chicago Fire. As the newest fire chief, Mulroney has quickly become an integral part of the show, earning the admiration of fans and co-stars alike. His character will take center stage in the much-anticipated One Chicago crossover event—a thrilling three-hour spectacle that unites the casts of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD.

During a recent interview with MovieWeb to promote his film Laws of Man, Mulroney opened up about the crossover event, his role as Chief Pascal, and the unique experience of being part of the One Chicago universe.

A Movie-Like Experience on the Small Screen

Mulroney expressed his excitement for the crossover, describing it as one of the most ambitious projects he’s been part of. “I’m so excited about that particular episode because of what they’ve done and how they put this together,” he said. “It’s bigger set pieces and action scenes than really almost anything I’ve ever done.”

He praised the production’s high standards, calling Chicago Fire a “well-oiled machine” and applauding the dedication of the cast and crew. “They give it their all, and it’s a tall order. All of those actors rise to the occasion every time. I’m so impressed and inspired, and I’m having a great time in Chicago playing Chief Pascal,” Mulroney added.

The crossover event, set to premiere on January 29, will unfold like a three-hour movie. “It starts with Fire, then goes to Med, and finally, they screw all the bolts down at the end with Chicago PD,” Mulroney explained. “What’s so fun is that I got to act across all three shows with actors from each series. It’s an incredible experience.”

Chief Pascal’s Impact on Mulroney’s Life

Although Mulroney hasn’t been with Chicago Fire for long, his character has already left a mark on fans—and on the actor’s life. “People, like in an airport or something, call me ‘Chief’ now,” Mulroney said with a laugh. “So we must be doing something right! I’m so, so proud to join them.”

Mulroney also reflected on the unique opportunities television offers actors today, pointing out that being on a regular series allows for a different kind of connection with audiences. Drawing inspiration from Harrison Ford, who has ventured into TV with Shrinking, Mulroney shared, “Ford talked about how it’s different because people see you every week. It’s a whole new way of connecting with fans, and I feel so grateful for that.”

What’s Next for Chief Pascal?

When asked about his future on Chicago Fire, Mulroney admitted he’s as in the dark as fans are. “I have no idea what’s happening next. I’m only about an episode ahead of what’s being shown on TV,” he said. Despite the uncertainty, Mulroney expressed his hope to continue playing Chief Pascal for as long as possible. “It’s such a wonderful job, of course. So I’d say yes—I hope to continue—but I don’t have any inside line on that.”

In addition to his work on Chicago Fire, Mulroney is keeping busy with other projects. His latest film, Laws of Man, is now available in select theaters and on-demand platforms.

Why This Crossover Event Is Unmissable

With bigger action scenes, a seamless integration of the One Chicago universe, and Mulroney’s character taking a pivotal role, this crossover promises to be a cinematic experience unlike any other on network television. Whether you’re a long-time fan of One Chicago or tuning in for the first time, the January 29 event is not one to miss.
