Dermot Mulroney Named Chicago Fire Chief! What You Need to Know
Big news for Chicago Fire fans. After 12 years as Chief Wallace Boden, Eamonn Walker is stepping down from his role as a series regular (his character has since been promoted to Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Fire Department). We don’t know what his future on the show will hold, but we do know who will be taking over as Chief at Fire Station 51: Dermot Mulroney.
Dermot Mulroney will join the cast of Chicago Fire as Chief Dom Pascal. Pascal started his career in Chicago but has spent the last decade in Miami, and his personality is as fun as it gets. He’s fun and tough under pressure, but he’s distant from his wife.
And don’t worry, it looks like Boden isn’t going anywhere just yet. “Thanks, but we’ll see each other again,” Boden tells the firefighters at the end of Season 12. “There’s no need to say goodbye for too long.”
Where You’ve Seen Dermot Mulroney
Mulroney has a huge resume of both TV and film projects. He got his big break in 1988’s Young Guns, and went on to star in films like Longtime Companion, My Best Friend’s Wedding, About Schmidt, and The Family Stone. He’s had memorable roles on shows like Friends and New Girl, and he’s also got his hands on a TV show about firefighters, appearing in five episodes of Station 19 Season 2.
Mulroney would have fun with the Chicago Fire crew
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Chicago Fire star Miranda Rae Mayo described the atmosphere on the various One Chicago shows. “When you go to the set of Med, it’s like a fancy dinner party, you know what I mean? Like everyone’s reading, everyone’s talking softly… Then you go to P.D., and they’re a little rougher,” Mayo said.
“And then you go to Fire, and it’s a circus. I mean, really, we’re loud, we’re laughing, it’s very much like a fire station… It’s very lively,” she added. It sounds like Mulroney is going to have some fun!

Chicago Fire is Coming Back for Season 13
Chicago Fire will premiere September 25 on NBC and will take over its regular time slot: Wednesdays at 9/8c.
NBC Insider spoke with Chicago Fire showrunner Andrew Newman about what the changes and staffing changes at Firehouse 51 could mean for the future.
“This is a new era [of Chicago Fire] in many ways, though the core family is still together and will need each other to navigate the twists and turns ahead,” Newman said. “Fans can expect some darker themes, with new challenges, battles, and suspense as things get chaotic at 51!”
