Over the last fifty-nine years there have been a number of iconic weddings on the hit Peacock soap opera Days of Our Lives. Now on the anniversary of one of those memorable moments, Deidre Hall is honoring the memory with her fans.
Hall took to Instagram on the anniversary of Marlena’s wedding to, whom she believed to be, Roman Brady (Drake Hogestyn) back in 1986. The actress shared the scene of one of Daytime’s most emotional weddings, along with the caption, “I simply blinked and it was 39 years later. It still feels magical. #days”
For those that didn’t watch the original storyline, or want a refresher, this wedding was the culmination of nearly three years worth of story as Marlena’s husband Roman Brady (Wayne Northrop) was tragically ‘killed’ off, after a clifftop battle with arch enemy Stefano Dimera (Joseph Moscolo). Years later ‘The Pawn’ (Hogestyn) and viewers watched the story unfold, ultimately revealing that The Pawn was actually Roman, or so viewers were led to believe. All leading to the iconic wedding in 1986 that helped cement the pairing as one of Days most iconic super couples. Years after the wedding it is revealed that Hogestyn’s interpretation of Roman was not the ‘real’ Roman Brady and he was actually John Black, but that’s a story for a different day.
Back on Instagram, Hall’s co-stars shared their support for the actress in the comments, with Martha Madison (who plays Hall’s on-screen daughter Belle) saying, “And my love of daytime TV began…. #icons ❤️” Greg Rikaart (Leo) added, “Incredible. ❤️” While Linsey Godfrey shared, “What a pair of absolute babes ♥️✨”
The wedding continues to be memorable for fans, who also came to share their memories of the moment, one user wrote, “I watched it live. Those of us who loved Roman couldn’t believe we’d love this new guy so much… until Drake came in. I love everything you built together and I miss your partner so much. ❤️” With a second user sharing, “I remember watching this back in 1986. I loved the entire storyline of searching for John Black’s identity leading up to Marlena discovering he was Roman. The storylines in the eighties were so awesome!”
This is not the first time Hall has referenced this iconic wedding. The actress was interviewed by TV Source Magazine in 2022 and when asked which of her weddings had been her favorite the fan favorite explained, “I think it might have been the first wedding with John [then Roman] in 1986. I’m never quite sure because there have been rather a few. It is when Marlena married John in the church.
Lee Smith designed an extraordinary headpiece, we didn’t want a veil because it wasn’t quite appropriate to have one, but it had these amazing cut out sleeves with cut outs on the side with a lovely little train. I just adored it.”
Days of our Lives made the historic move leaving NBC, where it was the network’s longest running soap opera, to exclusively stream on Peacock in 2022. Since then, Hall celebrated her 5,000th episode on the Daytime Emmy Award winning soap opera, and continues to be a vital part of the fabric of Days of Our Lives.
