Days of Our Lives star Raven Bowens has promised one good thing from EJ’s shooting. Whodunits are a favorite soap trope, and Days of Our Lives has approached the shooting of legendary villain EJ DiMera differently than other mysteries in the genre.
While there are plenty of people who want EJ dead, the soap quickly revealed video of Johnny (Carson Boatman) confronting him with a gun while claiming he didn’t go through with the deed. After Belle (Martha Madison) received footage from an anonymous source depicting Chanel (Raven Bowens) threatening EJ’s life as well, suspicion also fell on Johnny’s wife.
Bowens teases the fallout from what appears to be one of Days of Our Lives’ wildest stories in 2025, saying that the silver lining is that this story brings Johnny and Chanel closer together. Check out her full quote below:
“Many people could have shot EJ, so it’s like picking and choosing and not knowing who [could have actually shot him], But I think, ultimately, Chanel does stand by her husband, whether or not he turns out to be guilty. And they are able to build a deeper connection just based on the things that they share and the vulnerability that they have with each other throughout this whole shenanigan. Although initially, she is upset with certain things and the way that Johnny moves throughout this whole unit of time… Once she knows what’s actually what, then she’s able to become that rock. And then, at some point, I think it transitions, and he has to be the rock for her.”
What Bowens’ Tease Means For Days of Our Lives
The Johnny Trial Story Isn’t As Straightforward As It May Seem
Days of Our Lives EJ and Chanel are upset while Jada arrests Johnny
It seemed as if Johnny’s arrest and trial were going to be a story about a wrongly accused man in danger of being jailed while the real killer is still walking free. While it’s possible that will ultimately be the case, Bowens was careful in her comments not to reveal whether Johnny was guilty or innocent.
Johnny has been adamant that he gave EJ the gun for safekeeping, but it’s possible that more information will be revealed that demonstrates his guilt. Additionally, from Bowens’ comments about Johnny having to support Chanel, it’s likely that the faked video showing her threatening EJ’s life will become a more serious problem for her than it is at the moment.
Regardless of whether one or both of these characters is ultimately found guilty of the shooting, it’s clear that this Days of Our Lives storyline is nowhere near over. The trial will likely last through the summer and have several twists and turns.
Our Take On Bowens’ Preview of The EJ Shooting Story
This Plot Is The Perfect Vehicle For Johnny and Chanel
Johnny and Chanel have the potential to be one of the strongest couples in Days of Our Lives, but they have not been given a chance to prove it. The two have broken up several times because of tedious love triangles or cheating stories.
Their story about Chanel carrying a baby that was potentially severely disabled had promise, but was cut short by her miscarriage, and the two have struggled with the question of when or whether to adopt a baby. However, this legal drama storyline allows Days of Our Lives to correct course after nearly ruining the couple.
The EJ shooting story requires them to be on the same side and support each other, while others in Salem are convinced that one or both are guilty of shooting EJ. Bowens is right that this is a positive coming out of the drama surrounding the attempted murder in Days of Our Lives. The twists in this story will likely keep audiences guessing while strengthening the bond between Johnny and Chanel so that they can finally move forward as a couple.
