“David Boreanaz’s New Show Takes a Bold Turn from SEAL Team — and It’s More Thrilling Than Ever!”

David Boreanaz’s time on SEAL Team is coming to an end, but the actor already has a new show lined up that sounds very different from the Paramount+ drama. While SEAL Team season 6 was the perfect ending, the series got a last-minute renewal. SEAL Team season 7, however, will include the show. Since the news broke, there have been questions about what Boreanaz will do next. He’s had one of the most consistent careers since breaking out on Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1997 as a soul-wielding vampire named Angel. The character’s popularity opened the door for Boreanaz to headline a five-season spinoff. After Angel ended in 2004, he switched things up with Bones, starring alongside Emily Deschanel for all 12 seasons until its conclusion in 2017. Later that year, he moved on to SEAL Team, and his series regular role will end this year when the final season airs. Boreanaz has had some great roles, but he’s not slowing down. After playing vampires, special agents, and Navy SEALs, he’s ready to change direction with his next show.

During the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, David Boreanaz revealed that he’s working on a new series as a writer, but he’s not sure if he’ll star in it. Many actors branch out into writing and directing. Thanks to Boreanaz’s 27-year career in episodic television, he’s had firsthand experience with how television is produced. Those skills would come in handy when it comes to getting another series off the ground. Specifically, Boreanaz is keeping details about the project under wraps for now, but he admitted to watching “a lot of The Sopranos,” implying that the next project won’t be anything like SEAL Team.

Realizing that such an admission might lead people to think the show is about the mafia, the actor was quick to clarify that his inspiration came from the style of the HBO hit, not its plot. “You know, I like suits, I like style, I like cars,” Boreanaz confirmed. It’s certainly an intriguing tease, but it doesn’t provide much in the way of specifics about the show. Since SEAL Team doesn’t allow for much fashion because of its setting and the characters being thrust into deadly situations, the new series could have some similarities to one of Boreanaz’s previous roles. One of Boreanaz’s most famous roles is Seeley Booth on Bones, which would make the hit TV series a possibility. However, Bones is a popular series, so bringing it back would be a great way to revisit a beloved show. Plus, reviving Bones could also answer some burning questions, as Boreanaz is writing his next vehicle, so it probably won’t be part of the Bones universe. Knowing that he’s more into cars, suits, and style means there are plenty of possibilities for SEAL Team’s next fixer for the rich and famous, but the success of Ray Donovan means it’s probably too early for a similar series. Another possibility is a lawyer, but until he’s confirmed, that’s a lot to ponder. After seven years as the main attraction on SEAL Team, it’ll be interesting to see what happens next in his career. Boreanaz has a knack for picking hit TV shows, so his career will continue to thrive if he chooses another project that can stand the test of time.
