David Boreanaz has landed his first role since Bones.
The actor has signed on to star in CBS’s untitled Navy SEALs drama, replacing Jim Caviezel, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The project will follow the lives of the elite unit as they train and plan the most dangerous, high-risk missions our country could ask of them. Boreanaz will play Jason, the dedicated and respected leader of his strike team who has been on more than a dozen deployments.
Caviezel has left the project due to creative differences. The cast also includes Jessica Pare (Mad Men), Max Thieriot, Neil Brown Jr., A.J. Buckley and Toni Trucks.
Ben Cavell (Sneaky Pete, Homeland) wrote the script and will executive produce alongside Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly. Chris Chulack (Shameless, ER) is also on board to executive produce and direct the episode, which is produced by CBS Television Studios.
For Boreanaz, the casting comes a week ahead of the finale of Fox’s Bones, which he has starred in for the past 12 seasons. The veteran actor also serves as a producer on the show and directed several episodes. His other TV credits include his breakout role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spinoff Angel, which Boreanaz starred in.
