David Boreanaz on Moving His Son Out of His College Apartment

David Boreanaz plays an elite soldier on his military drama SEAL Team, but when he’s not on screen, he’s just like any other dad.

“I just helped my son [Jaden, 22] move out of his apartment in New York,” he tells PEOPLE, about what he’s been doing in between talk shows and interviews promoting the seventh and final season of SEAL Team.

“It’s been a test of patience!” he says with a laugh. “My son has been packing and organizing most of his stuff for the new tenant while I’ve been helping out from the sidelines, but it’s been a whirlwind.”

He jokes, “Parenthood is such a journey. It never ends and it never gets easier!”

The former Bones member said his son is leaving the city to pursue his passions.

“He went to NYU, but he decided to take a break last year. He’s an artist and a musician, so he’s always been true to his soul… you have to follow your heart,” he said, adding that he’s doing the same.

Boreanaz announced last November that he would be pursuing new passions after the final season of SEAL Team (which premieres August 11 on Paramount+).

“There are things in the works,” he said, adding that he can’t talk about them right now. “But some of the things that I planted a long time ago are starting to take root.”

While he’ll miss SEAL Team—and the compliments he received from real elite soldiers who thanked him for his accurate portrayal of military life—he won’t miss what the intense photoshoots did to his body.

“I did a LIVE with Kelly and Mark the other day [for the final season of SEAL Team], and these two young girls were there for a fashion show, literally 10 and 12 years old,” he said.

“Their mom was there, too, and she said they were so excited that I was there because they love Bones, and I just sat there and thought, ‘This is magical!'” ”

And as for his 15-year-old daughter, Bella — is she a Bones fan?

“My daughter is an excellent equestrian,” he said. “She’s a loving, adventurous soul. Both of my kids pursue their own interests. I’m very protective of them, but they’re all great. My son is a singer, artist, and songwriter, my daughter is in high school. They’re all great.”
