The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon co-creator Chuck Lorre has revealed he now regrets an early creative decision: killing off George Cooper Sr., a choice that later clashed with the character’s warmer portrayal.
In a vanity card following Young Sheldon’s penultimate episode — which depicted George Sr.’s off-screen death — Lorre admitted the idea once felt right for shaping Sheldon’s backstory. Nearly two decades later, he says he hadn’t anticipated how deeply audiences and creators would grow to care about the character.
Young Sheldon redefined George Sr. as flawed but loving, challenging Sheldon’s harsher memories from The Big Bang Theory. The prequel also revealed that much of Sheldon’s resentment stemmed from misunderstandings, adding emotional depth to the family dynamic.
