Chris O’Donnell Reflects on the NCIS: Los Angeles Movie

Chris O’Donnell, best known for his role as Special Agent G. Callen on NCIS: Los Angeles, recently opened up about the show’s emotional end — and the plans for a follow-up film that ultimately didn’t take shape.

In a conversation with TV Line, O’Donnell shared how difficult it was to say goodbye after 14 successful seasons. The long-running CBS series had a dedicated fanbase, and hopes were high for a potential movie to give the story — and its characters — one final chapter.

The actor revealed that he and his fellow cast members had actually discussed the idea of making a film during the Hollywood strikes, believing they could pull one together in just six weeks. Unfortunately, the idea never got off the ground.

“There was definitely interest on our side,” O’Donnell said. “But it just wasn’t the kind of thing CBS tends to go for.”

Despite the show’s conclusion in 2023, the idea of a reunion or movie remained a hopeful prospect — one that could have offered closure to fans who followed the team’s journey from the beginning. But as O’Donnell admitted, “It was tough to leave, especially because we genuinely enjoyed working with each other.”

The series may have ended, but the characters and stories still live on in the hearts of fans — even without the cinematic send-off they almost received.
