Despite being engaged to Joan Vassos, the winner of The Golden Bachelorette, Chock Chapple has nothing but positive things to say about his fellow contestant and Joan’s runner-up, Guy Gansert. Fans of the show might assume there’s some tension between the two men, especially since they were both in love with the same woman, but Chock has made it clear that their bond remains strong even after the dramatic finale.
Appearing on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Chock revealed that he and Guy have stayed close since filming wrapped. “Guy is a fantastic person. He’s got class and has handled this so well,” Chock shared with hosts Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt. “He and I talk every week. I only have positive things to say about him.”
While many may have expected animosity after Chock won Joan’s heart, Chock explained that their friendship has remained intact. “He cared for Joan, he really did,” Chock said, emphasizing his respect for Guy’s feelings. “It’s tough loving the same woman, but we’ve been able to maintain our friendship, and I support him 100 percent.”
Chock admitted that he isn’t a very emotional person and prefers to keep his feelings in check. “I don’t really have a lot of emotions. I try to think through situations,” he explained. Still, he acknowledged how difficult it must have been for Guy to be in the position of losing Joan. “I can’t tell you how graceful I’d be if I would’ve lost,” Chock admitted. “Guy deserves a lot of credit. He is a really solid person.”
Chock also believes Guy has all the qualities necessary to be a great lead for The Golden Bachelor season 2. “He’s really good looking,” Chock joked, adding, “I still don’t think his teeth are real, but he’s a good looking man!” Joan, who has always defended Guy’s character, echoed Chock’s praise. “I’m not sure Bachelor Nation really knows Guy well, but he is such an amazing human being,” she said, highlighting Guy’s intelligence and emotional maturity.
Chock and Guy’s relationship was not without its tensions during the season. At one point, Guy confronted Chock over his aggressive approach during a bowling group date, where Chock monopolized Joan’s time. While Chock initially didn’t care how it made the other contestants feel, he later apologized after being called a “stalker” by fellow contestant Pascal Ibgui. Despite their differences, both men were able to move forward and remain respectful towards one another.
In the end, Guy came in second place, heartbroken after Joan chose Chock. He admitted that it was difficult to watch Joan fall in love with someone else, but he’s now ready to move forward and keep his heart open for future possibilities. “It was hard to relive the season,” Guy confessed during After the Final Rose, “but I’m doing okay now.”
Both Chock and Joan have nothing but respect for Guy, and it’s clear that any lingering tension has been replaced with genuine friendship and admiration.
