The show is really ratcheting up the tension for what happens next.
We don’t want to see anybody perish. There have been tons of shocking Chicago Fire deaths that have occurred over the years. We just put out a list compiling all of them. It’s been a couple seasons since we’ve had to sit and process the idea that a mainstay of Firehouse 51 would be no more, and it looks like time has run out… for someone.
The promo for “Too Close” makes it disturbingly clear that somebody loses their life. We see characters in utter shock, at a hospital, so we thought we’d take stock of where Chicago Fire characters are at and point to a few of the most likely culprits when it comes to getting killed.
Here’s who we came up with, from least likely to most:
Jack Damon
Jack Damon (Michael Bradway) is back. He returned to the show in “Bar Time,” and the promo for “Too Close” shows him attempting to save someone’s life in what looks to be a dangerous building fire. We have seen countless firefighters succumb to the dangers of the job. Damon dying would be shocking, but it would also mean that other Fire mainstays would be safe (at the risk of sounding morbid).
The thing that doesn’t really gel is the emotional reaction that Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) and Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) give in the promo. It’s hard to believe these particular two would be so broken up about Damon dying. Hence his bronze medal placement.
Lyla Novak
Novak (Jocelyn Hudon) dying would explain why Violet and Pascal are so horrified. Violet has become best friends with the medic since she joined the show, and Pascal and Novak have developed a bond of their own during season 12.
The medic’s death would definitely shock and sadden, but the way Hudon and showrunner Gwen Sigan has talked about her leads us to believe that there is a lot more coming with the character. We have barely scratched the surface, so silver sounds about right in this instance.
Monica Pascal
Monica Pascal (KaDee Strickland) has a target on her back heading into “Too Close.” She has been set up as someone who has a very complicated dynamic with her estranged husband, Dom, but it’s also been established that they still care for each other. The Chief would be devastated to loose her.
Violet doesn’t know Monica Pascal particularly well, but who among us would not be emotional having to tell a friend and boss that their spouse has perished? She is the gold medal candidate in terms of likeliness. That said, Chicago Fire has always done a good job of keeping us off balance, and throwing in curveballs at the last minute.
