Chicago Fire: The 3 Most Heartbreaking Breakups on NBC’s Drama So Far

With 13 seasons on air, it’s no surprise that one of NBC’s most popular series, Chicago Fire, has showcased a considerable number of romantic couples, which have undoubtedly contributed to its success. However, there are 3 breakups that were especially hard to swallow.

Clarice Cartago and Leslie Shay

Everyone still remembers Leslie Shay (Lauren German), who had a relationship with Clarice Carthage (Shiri Appleby). As revealed in the first season of Chicago Fire, the duo dated for years but eventually split. They rekindled their romance when Shay responded to a 911 call at Clarice’s baby shower.

However, when Clarice gives birth, her ex-husband seeks full custody, and instead of fighting for it, Clarice gives in and decides to go back to him. Initially, viewers hoped the couple would resolve their issues and reunite, but Clarice stood firm in her intentions, leaving Shay emotionally shattered.

Sylvie Brett and Antonio Dawson

One of the favorite characters from Chicago P.D., Antonio Dawson (John Sena), had a relationship with Chicago Fire’s paramedic, Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). In the first season, Antonio is introduced as the brother of Gabby Dawson (Monica Raymund), a member of the Chicago Police Department’s Intelligence Unit, whose team supports Firehouse 51. In the fifth season, Antonio and Sylvie establish an on-again, off-again relationship.

During their romance, Antonio and Brett are shown as a couple with great chemistry. However, they ended the relationship in season 6 with the return of Antonio’s ex-wife. It was later revealed that the breakup was due to a creative decision by the production, when creating the crossover between Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.

Lily and Otis Zvonecek

Without a doubt, the separation of Lily (Ariane Rinehart) and Otis Zvonecek (Yuri Sardarov) was the most painful in Chicago Fire. They meet during the sixth season of the drama, when Otis goes to a bar to buy equipment to open Molly’s 2, and a spark ignites between them.

This is Otis’s second relationship in Chicago Fire, and just when it was heading towards a happy ending, everything ends with the tragic death of the beloved firefighter in the eighth season. Fans didn’t get to see Lily’s reaction on screen; it was only revealed that she decided to close Molly’s 2, as it was a sad reminder of the death of her soulmate.
