Chicago Fire star says Mouch death would be “hole in his life”

Chicago Fire star David Eigenberg has weighed in on the possibility of losing a long-time on-screen pal in the show’s latest cliffhanger.

The actor, who plays Christopher Herrmann on the series, addressed the possible death of Randall ‘Mouch’ McHolland, portrayed by Christian Stolte. The latter character was seriously injured during a dangerous rescue call in the season 11 finale, which aired last month in the US.

After initially seeming fine, the firefighter was rushed to Chicago Med, where he lost consciousness and flatlined, leaving fans fearing for his fate.

“I don’t know what they’re going to do, but I don’t want to lose Christian because it’d be a huge hole in my life,” Eigenberg told TVLine about the tense finale.

“There’s a lot of love on our show,” he continued, highlighting that the cast have been together for over a decade now.

The Sex and the City actor also discussed his friendship with Stolte, with the two bonding and watching over each other on set.

“I’ve watched Christian become a grandfather,” Eigenberg said.

“Christian is one of the funniest guys on the show. He’s a real sourpuss, but, man, is he funny. We laugh a lot every day,” he continued.

Following a dramatic season, the actor hopes he won’t have to say goodbye to more people in Firehouse 51.

“I don’t want to lose anybody on the show. We’ve got a great group,” he said.

“I care about Christian. We have hard days, and we’re not kids anymore. We get beat up,” he continued.

“I’ve had days where I go to our paramedic on set like, ‘Keep an eye out.’ Christian’s 61, I’m almost 60… Real life is stitched into our fictional [ones].”

In April this year, Chicago Fire was renewed for a twelfth season, though the ongoing writers’ strike is likely to delay the start of production.
