He’s the knot of all the knots on One Chicago, but has Jack Damon left Chicago Fire? Michael Bradway debuted as Damon, a firefighter who joined Truck 81 of Firehouse 51, in Season 12 of Chicago Fire.
The season ended on a cliffhanger after Damon—who replaced former Truck 81 firefighter Derrick Gibson—revealed that he was actually the half-brother of Lt. Kelly Severide. The revelation was one of Chicago Fire’s most shocking twists, but less than a season later, it appears Damon has been written out of the NBC sitcom.
What Happened to Jack Damon on Chicago Fire?
Damon was fired from Fire Squad 51 in Season 13, Episode 3, “All Kinds of Crazy”, after Lieutenant Stella Kidd – the wife of Damon’s estranged brother, Lieutenant Kelly Severide – demanded his firing after learning that he had intentionally lied to her while they were on duty. The episode saw Kidd struggle to manage Damon, who idolized Severide but disrespected Kidd, while in her car.
Although Kidd made excuses for Damon’s behavior due to his relationship with Severide, her breaking point came when she discovered that Damon had lied about disobeying her orders during a mission.
Despite new Chief Dom Pascal complaining that Stella’s squad “has more turnover than the Cubs’ bullpen”, she decided to fire Damon and urged Pascal to transfer him back to the rescue squad. “I need to get Jack Damon back on the rescue team,” she told Pascal, who replied, “You never mentioned any problems with him in the reports,” Pascal noted. “As far as I can tell, Damon is a great firefighter.”

“If there was a problem, I shouldn’t be hearing about it now,” Pascal joked, and Stella agreed: “You’re right. I should have sounded the alarm sooner.”
“And again, there’s a change on your rig,” Pascal says, to which Stella replies, “That’s right, and I don’t want to make excuses for—” Pascal then cuts Stella off before telling her, “So don’t do that. As the commander, I’m the one who makes the final decision about who stays and who goes in the firehouse. And I’m going to decide whether or not your leadership is part of the problem.”
Chicago Fire seemingly confirmed that Damon would be leaving the series in Season 13, Episode 4, “Through the Skin,” in which viewers learned that Damon had moved to Firehouse 20 and was doing well in his new home. The episode also saw Severide visit the firehouse, where he learned that the lieutenant at the firehouse liked Damon so much that he planned to make him a full-time position. The episode also saw Severide and Damon make up, with Severide reminding Damon that he doesn’t need to live up to anyone’s reputation and should instead make a name for himself as a firefighter.
This scene appears to serve as a conclusion to Severide and Damon’s relationship as well as Damon’s Chicago Fire storyline in general. The next episode, Season 13, Episode 5, “Down the Rabbit Hole,” makes no mention of Damon, which seems to confirm that he has officially been written out of Chicago Fire.
For many fans, Damon’s departure was a bad decision for the show, as Damon’s relationship with Severide was the cliffhanger of Season 12. Damon was fired from Firehouse 51 after just three episodes of Season 13, and with so many storylines left to explore surrounding Damon and Severide’s relationship and their shared family, it seemed like a waste to write off his character so early in Season 13. Plus, the dynamic between him, Stella, and Severide, and the tension he created between the pair made for some interesting television.
There’s also Damon’s burgeoning romantic relationship with new Firehouse 51 paramedic Lyla “Lizzie” Novak, which Chicago Fire has seemingly been hinting at since both characters joined the series in Season 12. Bradway, who plays Damon, also promoted Chicago Fire in an Instagram Story post the week after Damon was fired from Firehouse 51, having previously hinted that he wasn’t leaving the show. “Chicago Fire tonight,” he wrote across the top of a photo of himself.
