Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 6 “Birds of Prey” introduces a storyline for both Pascal and Severide that will put their families in danger sooner rather than later. Or at least, that’s what the preview for Episode 7 promises. In Episode 6, Pascal comes across a State Police Chief he’s sure is dirty and takes it upon himself to get evidence against him, while pretending he’s also dirty.

It’s a good idea on paper, but Pascal doesn’t count on one thing, Kelly Severide. It all starts during the call to the fire, as Severide and Squad stay behind to try to figure out how the fire started. Soon, they’re kicked out of the scene by State Police, and Pascal pretends he’s playing ball with them. In fact, he pretends so well that he puts Severide on his tail.

Kelly Severide isn’t the type of man to take the idea of his Chief being dirty well, so he of course does some digging. What he finds is enough information to confront Pascal, who seems to actually appreciate Severide for doing the right thing. But as Pascal warns Severide he should step away and let him keep on doing what he’s doing, Severide tells him he’s in.

If the preview for the next episode is to be believed, that’s going to lead to trouble for both of them. Both Pascal’s wife and Stella appear in the episode, as Pascal says “He’s trying to intimidate us, let us know he can get to the people we love.” That means somehow Bishop is onto them, and they’re going to have to get the evidence they need to put him away fast before something happens to either Monica or Stella.

The logline for Chicago Fire Episode 7 “Untouchable” promises the two will “revisit the storage facility fire in hopes of uncovering new evidence,” which is a promising beginning, particularly as Pascal states in the promo, to someone saying that “arson is almost impossible to prove,” with “not for him” in reference to Severide. But even if he can prove arson, can he tie it to Bishop? And if he can, can he do so in a way that takes Bishop out for good?

Probably yes, considering this is TV, but the storyline is very good for the show, particularly for what the show wants to build with Pascal. Right now, Pascal doesn’t fit with Firehouse 51, not really. He’s been a decent Chief, and it’s not like everyone hates him, but no one really loves him either. No one would go to bat for him. And part of that is that no one knows him well, but there’s also the fact that he doesn’t actually volunteer anything.

If he gets Severide to trust him, then that’s a step forward for Pascal. And working on this case together could get the two there. It could also result in a lot of trouble for both them and their families. But if there’s a show that likes playing with fire, it’s this one.
