Chicago Fire Season 13’s Newest Couple Is the Best Replacement for Casey & Brett

Chicago Fire Season 13’s Newest Couple Is the Best Replacement for Casey & Brett
Viewers said goodbye to Matt Casey and Sylvie Brett in Chicago Fire season 12, but an exciting new couple could be taking their place when season 13 premieres. The NBC procedural drama, created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, has had its fair share of romantic relationships over the years. From the ups and downs of Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd’s romance to the stable and healthy marriage of Wallace and Donna Boden, fans have seen it all. However, now that Casey and Brett have left Chicago Fire, the show has room for a new couple in season 13. When Chicago Fire season 13 premieres, Firehouse 51 will be going through a lot of changes. With Chief Boden no longer the chief but the deputy commissioner of the Chicago Fire Department, a new chief will join the firefighters and paramedics at Firehouse 51—Dom Pascal, played by Dermot Mulroney. Plus, the Chicago Fire season 12 finale revealed that Jack Damon is Severide’s half-brother, and Sam Carver told Violet Mikami he loved her before he went on leave. So season 13 has a lot to deal with. But there’s also a potential love story hidden in that chaos.

tween the newcomers. Damon replaced Derrick Gibson when he left Chicago Fire. Novak, meanwhile, took over for Brett after she moved to Portland with Casey and her daughter. So, given their age and status as newcomers to the show, it makes sense to push Damon and Novak together, and that’s exactly what happened in the finale. One of the final scenes teased romantic chemistry between Damon and Novak, but they’ll likely start out as friends, much like Casey and Brett.

Casey and Brett were friends for years before they started dating. It looks like Damon and Novak might be headed down a similar path in Chicago Fire season 13. Damon essentially asked Novak out, but she steered the conversation in a different direction. Novak encouraged him to open up about what he’s been hiding (which viewers later learned was his relationship with Severide) and brushed off Damon’s offer to hang out at some point. So it’s more likely that Damon and Novak’s relationship will be platonic before it develops into something deeper. Casey and Brett were friends for years before they started dating. It looks like Damon and Novak may be going down the same path in Chicago Fire season 13. It took several seasons of Chicago Fire for Casey and Brett to be honest about their feelings for each other. Of course, Casey dated and married Gabby Dawson for a few seasons, but that wasn’t the main issue. Even when Casey and Brett started developing feelings for each other (and Gabby was out of the picture), it took a long time for them to kiss. If Damon and Novak were officially replacing Casey and Brett on Chicago Fire, it would make sense for their relationship to move slowly as well (especially since the other couples have admitted to being in a relationship). Severide and Kidd have been married since the season 10 finale of Chicago Fire, while Carver and Violet started dating in season 12. Yes, Severide and Kidd’s marriage was on the rocks on Chicago Fire, but their relationship is basically old news. Even the new drama between Severide and Kidd isn’t quite as compelling. Carver and Violet are still figuring out where they stand with each other, but they’ve slept together and Carver has told Violet he loves her. So the NBC procedural drama would benefit greatly from a slow-burning friends-to-lovers romance — Damon and Novak are on board.
There’s no telling what Damon and Novak’s romantic potential will be in One Chicago season 13. However, based on their scenes together in the season 12 finale, it’s clear they have chemistry, and the writers aren’t going to miss the chance to capitalize on it. A behind-the-scenes photo from the Chicago Fire season 13 set also teases that Damon and Novak will be getting closer in the upcoming episodes. Only time will tell what Chicago Fire season 13 has in store for Damon and Novak, but the possibility of them developing feelings for each other is significant considering the show’s history.
