Chicago Fire Season 13 has been anything but smooth for Carver (Jake Lockett) and Violet (Hanako Greensmith). Although their undeniable chemistry left fans hopeful last season, the duo spent the early episodes of this season drifting apart—both attempting to move on with new relationships. However, according to showrunner Andrea Newman, the drama is far from over, and the two will be forced to confront their lingering emotions before the season wraps up.
A Love Story Stuck in Limbo
In Season 12, Violet pushed Carver away despite their growing connection. By the time Season 13 began, Carver returned from Texas with an unexpected companion—his high school girlfriend, Tori (Holly Hinchcliffe). Meanwhile, Violet also sought a fresh start, stepping into a new romance of her own. However, as Newman teased in an interview with TV Line, their romantic distractions are merely delaying the inevitable.
“There’s a lot of drama coming up with the two of them. There are a lot of repercussions still playing out from what happened at the end of last season when she pushed him away,” Newman revealed. “They’re trying to figure out where they’re at emotionally and whether they can truly connect—or if it’s too late.”
Carver’s Struggle With His Past
Carver’s relationship with Tori was more about comfort than passion. He found solace in someone who knew his past, understood his struggles, and accepted his darkness without judgment. According to Lockett, this familiarity made Tori an “easy way out” for Carver, even if it wasn’t the healthiest choice.
But as his personal life started interfering with his work, Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo) stepped in. She confronted him about his reckless partying, ultimately leading to Carver and Tori’s breakup. With Tori leaving Chicago, Carver was suddenly single again—but that didn’t mean he immediately ran back to Violet.
Violet’s New Romance With Flynn
Seeing Carver move on pushed Violet into the arms of Flynn (Steven Strait), whom she is still dating as of Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 12. She even suggests to Ritter (Daniel Kyri) that he and Dwayne (Samuel B. Jackson) should have joined her and Flynn for a double date—proving she is still committed to her new relationship.
However, as the season progresses, fans can expect the show to revisit her complicated feelings for Carver. Will she be able to move forward with Flynn, or will her unresolved emotions bring her back to Carver?
What’s Next for Carver and Violet?
With so many unspoken emotions lingering between them, the tension between Carver and Violet is bound to reach a boiling point. Whether they finally give in to their feelings or decide to go their separate ways for good, one thing is clear: their story is far from over.
