Chicago Fire, Med, and PD are about to take their first break of the season
NBC’s One Chicago shows will be taking their first break of the season starting on Oct. 30.
Since kicking off their new seasons on Sept. 25, NBC’s One Chicago dramas have been airing new episodes every Wednesday night without any interruptions which has been great for fans. However, all good things must come to an end, and our streak of new episodes is about to come to a close next week.
After airing five episodes without any interruptions, Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD will be taking a brief break as the shows go into rerun mode for a week.
NBC primetime listings for the week of October 28 have confirmed that the One Chicago shows will be airing reruns on October 30, rather than new episodes. Luckily, this won’t be too long of a break as the One Chicago shows will be back on November 6!
News of the One Chicago shows taking a break shouldn’t be too surprising given that the Halloween episodes are airing on Oct. 23, which suggested early that NBC was planning on not airing new episodes on Oct. 30 – after all, it would have only made sense to air the Halloween episodes the night before Halloween if the plan was for new episodes to air that week.
While this break in the schedule might be disappointing to fans, it’s far from out of the ordinary for the One Chicago shows. We often see the shows take their first break of the season after about a month on air and these breaks are by design, as NBC must be strategic with its schedule in order to space the shows’ episodes out over the course of nine months in accommodating the September to May timelines for fall series.
Fans who still want to enjoy One Chicago Wednesday on NBC on Oct. 30 can look forward to a night of reruns with the plan being to run encores of the show’s season premieres. As confirmed by NBC the night will feature encore presentations of Chicago Med’s season 10 premiere, “Sink or Swim,” which saw the ED overrun with patients after a commuter ship accident; Chicago Fire’s season 13 premiere, “A Monster in the Field,” which introduced 51’s new chief, Chief Pascal; and Chicago PD’s season 12 premiere, “Ten Ninety-Nine,” which found Voight reeling after his near-death experience in the previous season’s finale.
