Chicago Fire Season 12 ended with fewer death-defying cliffhangers than usual, but the One Chicago show still left us with plenty of questions going into Season 13. One of the biggest ones was whether Sam Carver would be coming back to Chicago Fire after the last episode of Season 12 saw him run far away from Violet, their casual relationship, and what he thought were one-sided feelings.
Is Sam Carver Coming Back to Chicago Fire?
The firefighter has been a controversial figure since joining Truck 81, but he has managed to become part of the team despite a rocky start. Part of the issue has been his temper, but the team, and especially Stella Kidd, his Lieutenant, understands where that comes from at this point. Carver has a complicated family past and he truly cares for the people at Firehouse 51, so he can sometimes get a little extra zealous when it comes to defending them.
Add to that his feelings for Violet Mikami, which at this point have long since morphed from the casual she wanted to keep the relationship at to something real. It is that last reason, more than anything, that sees Carver running during the Chicago Fire Season 12 finale. When the paramedic confronts him after he loses it on a call, Carver confesses his feelings, and then, because it is the season finale and there has to be a cliffhanger of some sort, he runs.
Does that mean he won’t come back? With One Chicago losing so many cast members lately, it’s normal for fans to worry that Lockett might also be leaving, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. In fact, Lockett himself posted a casual video on Instagram that, though not a confirmation, seems to put all worries to rest.
The video, which shows him on the golf course with Joe Minoso, who plays Joe Cruz on Chicago Fire, shows the pair of them laughing, with a caption that reads “When you and your buddy are enjoying a game of golf and then remember you’re on rival firehouse apparatuses on TV.”
Severide and Stella might not be thrilled with the characterization of Truck and Squad as opposing firehouse apparatuses, but outside of that, Lockett’s caption doesn’t sound like that of someone who is leaving Chicago Fire anytime soon. It’s more likely that the Season 12 cliffhanger for Carver was just meant to be that, a regular cliffhanger, and that when the show comes back for Season 13, we will see Carver return from furlough and rejoin Firehouse 51. And sure, we will have to give Violet some answers, and his Lieutenant as well, because you just can’t run away from your problems, but in one thing we can relate to Carver – at one point, we have all tried.
