It was supposed to be just another busy filming day at Cinespace Chicago Film Studios. But for Chicago Fire star Miranda Rae Mayo, the day turned into a moment she’ll never forget.
During a scheduled break between scenes, Mayo was led into what she thought was a quick wardrobe check — only to be greeted by her co-stars shouting “Surprise!” The Firehouse 51 set had been transformed into a warm and intimate celebration, complete with fairy lights strung across the rafters, tables lined with red and white flowers, and a two-tier cake shaped like a fire helmet with “Congratulations, Miranda!” written in frosting.
The surprise was reportedly orchestrated by Taylor Kinney (Kelly Severide), who noticed Mayo had been quietly celebrating a personal milestone off-set. “We’re like family here,” Kinney told the gathered cast and crew. “When one of us has good news, we all celebrate.”
Hanako Greensmith (Violet Mikami) shared a short video on Instagram showing Mayo laughing and covering her face as the group clapped and cheered. The clip also revealed a sparkling ring on Mayo’s hand, sending fans into a frenzy.
NBC has not confirmed whether the engagement will be addressed on the show, but fan comments online range from heartfelt congratulations to playful speculation about whether art will imitate life and Kidd will walk down the aisle again on-screen.
