‘Chicago Fire’ Brings Back a Mysterious Ghost from Cruz’s Past in Season 13 Preview
The number 13 is a special one for the creative team behind Chicago Fire. “At first, we kept calling it Lucky 13 or Spooky 13, all these different names. And then we realized that that theme was going to be a big part of this season,” showrunner Andrea Newman told The Hollywood Reporter. Many characters have had ghosts from their past haunting them this season, and according to the promo video for Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 8, “Quicksand,” Cruz is visited by a ghost from his past. The synopsis below for the Nov. 20 episode teases Cruz’s backstory, while the promo video teases a horrific turn of events for him.
“Herrmann and Mouch prepare to take their officer’s exam; Cruz receives a creepy premonition; Carver takes care of a dog after its owner is injured in the line of duty.”
“You run toward danger, not away from it,” Dom says as the video above begins. He’s talking to Novak about something she seems concerned about. Pascal is becoming a great asset to the fire department despite not being warmly received by them. His latest collaboration with Severide is a testament to that, while this conversation with Novak hints at a growing relationship with the fire department members. Meanwhile, the team responds to an emergency where someone is critically injured. He could be the owner of the dog that Carver takes care of in the logline. Despite all his flaws, Carver would never fail to help someone in need. He’s willing to sell his truck to help a struggling family; Taking care of a dog is no big deal.
Elsewhere, Cruz gets the shock of his life when he finds a bullet in his locker at the fire station. An unused bullet is often a message left by organized crime to threaten their target or warn them of impending danger. With his run-ins with gangs over the years, it seems like the past is being brought up. Cruz meets a group of unidentified people at the church who reveal they’re overdue for a chat. It’s unclear who this person is and what they want from Cruz. Newman says, “Cruz is going to be haunted by a ghost from his past this season,” and it looks like that ghost is here.
The fall finale promises plenty of suspense as the season takes a break. NBC has not set a return date for its scripted shows, but stay tuned to Collider for more updates. In the meantime, stream previous episodes of Chicago Fire on Peacock.
