The couple is going to have to reconsider a few things.
The One Chicago crossover is going to impact several of our favorite franchise characters. The ones who will arguably be impacted the most, however, is Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).
Kidd will be placed in harm’s way, and Severide, as evidenced by the crossover promo, will be in a panic while he tries to rescue her. The two of them are going to be through a lot of emotions over the course of the epic three hour event, and Chicago Fire boss Andrea Newman confirmed that it will have an enormous impact on their marriage moving forward.
Severide and Kidd recognize what’s most important
Newman told One Chicago Center that the couple will be forced to confront the idea of never seeing each other again, and as such, the impulse to voice the way they feel is higher than ever. That’s what a near death experience will do. “Do whatever you want to do now,” Newman explained. “Say what you want to say now because you never know.”
This experience arrives an an especially difficult time for the couple. Severide and Kidd have not had the easiest time together since they tied the knot. They have had disagreements about whether they want kids, and Severide’s extended periods of travel has damaged their closeness on a day to day basis.
The crossover event will force both characters to confront what they consider important, though. “Do it now,” Newman explained. “I think that’s an undercurrent that they take moving forward. She went on to note that both Severide and Kidd have not had the healthiest upbringings, and are going to have to break the dysfunctional cycles they experienced and witnessed as children.
The couple will experience major changes in season 13
“They all add up to this feeling that the connection runs so deep between them,” the showrunner said. “They have these terrible role models as parents in terms of marriage and relationships. They’ve had to recreate what a couple looks like in their lives.” The process of recreation is initiated by the One Chicago crossover event.
It’s already been confirmed that Kidd will survive her crossover ordeal, but it’s good to know that her marriage will actually be reassessed and hopefully improved upon moving forward. Stellaride haven’t had the storybook romance some of us predicted back when they got married, but we are still rooting for them as the second half of season 13 gets underway.
