CBS shuts down hopes of Blue Bloods season 15: ‘All shows have to come to an end’
Despite strong pushback from the cast and fans, CBS has made it clear Blue Bloods season 15 is not happening and the show will end in late 2024.
CBS has heard the pleas of the cast and fans of its long-running Friday night drama Blue Bloods, but it seems the network refuses to waiver in its decision to bring the show to an end this fall with season 14.
During a press conference on May 2, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach made it abundantly clear that the network is not going to budge on its decision to cancel Blue Bloods.
“We love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule,” Reisenbach told reporters addressing the cast’s personal pleas to CBS brass to reconsider the decision to cancel the series. Basically, any hope that fans had been holding on to seems to have gone out the window as CBS is sticking to its decision and seems to show no signs of reversing course no matter how hard the fans or cast fight to save the show.
The decision to cancel the series is one that has created a lot of confusion among audiences as Blue Bloods remains a top performer for CBS and the cast all want to continue with the show. Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, and Bridget Moynahan are just a few of the cast who have openly shared their frustrations with CBS’s decision and expressed their desire to keep the show going.
One would imagine that with the show’s top stars all campaigning actively, CBS would reconsider given the success the show continues to enjoy and the passion the cast has in remaining with the series beyond its current fourteenth season. After all, it seemed to work for SWAT so fans were hopeful that the higher profile of Blue Bloods and its cast would have been enough to make CBS reconsider.
Blue Bloods season 14’s final episodes are coming in Fall 2024
While CBS has made up its mind and refuses to reverse Blue Bloods’ cancellation order, the network has assured fans they too will miss the show and hope to be able to give the series a proper sendoff.
“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” Reisenbach told reporters during CBS’s upfronts event. “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves.”
That sendoff will begin this fall with Blue Bloods returning for its final eight episodes on Friday nights as part of CBS’s 2024-25 primetime slate. The series will continue to close our CBS’s Friday night primetime block, holding onto the 10 p.m. timeslot it has held since its premiere way back in 2010. We don’t yet know when the final episodes will begin, but it seems likely the second part of season 14 will arrive in late September or early October.
CBS confirmed Blue Bloods series finale is coming in December 2024
CBS is not expected to announce the premiere date for Blue Bloods season 14’s second half until closer to the fall, but we do know that the show will be coming back in the fall as the closing hour in the Friday night slate behind SWAT and Fire Country. We also know that the series will sign off with its series finale sometime in December.
“We are going to end the show come December,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach announced, confirming that the series will sign off before the end of the year meaning there will be no new Blue Bloods after 2024.
It’s truly the end of an era for CBS as Blue Bloods has been a staple on Friday nights for 14 years and we’re not ready for that last Reagan family dinner.
