CBS confirms release date for Blue Bloods midseason finale (and its soon)

We’re getting closer to the end of the line for the Reagan clan.

Blue Bloods is in a fascinating spot. The ratings for the police drama continue to be strong, and the cast, particularly Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg, continue to push the idea that there are still way more Blue Bloods stories to be told. Nevertheless, CBS is moving forward with the notion that the show is going to be over after season 14.

Now, we have an end date in sight. The network released its schedule for the next few months, and chief among its revelations was the date in which the first part of the Blue Bloods midseason finale will air. The episode, which will air during the show’s regular 10 pm time slot, will be on Friday, May 17. That means fans have little more than a month to prepare themselves.

It’s both exciting and saddening that the show will be coming to an end so soon. On the bright side, the finale will be aired in two parts, and the second part will be withheld by CBS until the fall season gets underway. That means fans will have plenty of time to sit with the first part, and determine whether they enjoy the decisions that were made.

Tom Selleck was the first person to issue a statement alongside the announcement of the show ending, and he summed it up with eloquence and grace one would expect from a veteran star.

He praised the cast and crew, as well as CBS, for giving him the opportunity to play such a memorable character for a decade and a half:

“I’m grateful to have been a part of this extraordinary group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and CBS Network for their steadfast support and we offer heartfelt gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night.”

While we share in Selleck and Wahlberg’s desire for another season, or perhaps even a Reagan-based spinoff, we know that CBS has the final word, and all signs point toward season 14 being the end of the line. That being said, we’re excited to see how the producers and stars stick the landing.
