Some bad news are headed for Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) and Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) in Chicago Fire Season 14. Despite their relationship taking significant strides in the Season 13 finale, the upcoming season does not inspire confidence in a positive outcome for their relationship. We know that Lockett is not returning as a series regular when the show returns this Fall, and the finale also set up a potential exit arc for him. Carver revealed that he had applied for a job in Denver and might be leaving Chicago for good. However, nothing is a done deal. The show could walk anything back, but that won’t be easy. Their moment in the finale “brings up more questions than answers,” showrunner Gwen Sigan told Screen Rant, teasing what’s on the horizon for the couple.
“For Violet and Carver, getting to that point—it was so bubbling under the surface and so much had gone unspoken in this last bunch of episodes, and really for a lot of this season,” Sigan said. “So there’s something beautiful and fulfilling about them coming together and saying these words, but it’s also dangerous because it speaks to Carver saying, ‘I don’t know that I can heal. I don’t know that I can get on the road to recovery here in this place where I spiraled to begin with,'” she added. The showrunner teased the predicament ahead, saying:
“So as much as it’s this wonderful moment, it also brings up more questions than answers. We have to figure that out. They have to figure that out. Is it worth the risk to stay? Does Violet want that for him now? As much as she’s in love with him, doesn’t she want him to go to the place where he thinks he has the best chance of recovery?”
Bad Timing Strikes Again in ‘Chicago Fire’
This is not the first time bad timing has come between potential couples in Chicago Fire, but it’s a little bit different. “It’s complicated, and it’s much messier than the Brett-Casey, which was very simple, which is just location. This is, ‘Can we pull this off at all, or is this too dangerous? Are we getting too close to the fire, so to speak?’ So yeah, that one has to be figured out,” Sigan explained, comparing Carver and Violet to Sylvie (Kara Killmer) and Matt (Jesse Spencer) who luckily had a happy ending in their story. Will Carver change his mind about leaving now that there is a future with Violet? Will this complicate his life too much and worsen his problems?
