Bridgerton’s Yerin Ha Reveals Benedict’s ‘Mr. Darcy Feelings’ in Season 4
While Bridgerton Season 4 will be based on Julia Quinn’s book An Offer From a Gentleman, Luke Thompson’s Benedict Bridgerton has taken a page from another Regency novel for the show’s next chapter, according to co-star Yerin Ha.
In an interview with TV Insider, Ha shared behind-the-scenes tidbits, such as how in one scene, Thompson reminded her of Mr. Darcy from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.
Ha, who will play Benedict’s love interest Sophie Baek in Season 4, said: “I actually said to Luke, ‘You’re bringing the Mr. Darcy feeling, 100 percent.'” “I don’t think the showrunners are thinking that, but for me, I’m thinking Pride and Prejudice.”
The romance between Benedict and Sophie, which is the central love story in Bridgerton Season 4, begins at a masquerade ball, where Benedict meets the mysterious Lady in Silver—aka Sophie in disguise.
The Fourth Chapter of Bridgerton
While other details about the Season 4 plot have yet to be revealed, Thompson and Ha recently teased what viewers can expect. On October 28, Netflix released a new video of Thompson and Ha doing a dramatic reading of Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentlemen, in which they confirmed that “preparations for the masquerade ball have begun.”
In another video for Shondaland, Thompson explained, “It’s a fairytale love story,” adding, “But it also has the Bridgerton element of trying to tie it to some kind of reality and see how that plays out.” In the same clip, Ha describes the season as an “emotional battle,” but perhaps not between the show’s main characters. “You can expect a push and pull between what their hearts desire and what society expects of them,” she says.
Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington and is the showrunner for Season 3, also recently teased Season 4. Appearing on Good Morning America in October, she heaped praise on the new leads, saying they were “doing a fantastic, fantastic job” filming the fourth chapter.
