Bridgerton Universe Dominates Netflix’s Most Watched List With 33% Of Entries After Newest Record

The Bridgerton universe now holds 33% of the spots as Netflix’s most-watched shows, with the latest prequel Queen Charlotte cracking the Top 10 list.

Queen Charlotte now cracks Netflix’s Top 10 Most Popular TV shows, achieving a major milestone for the Bridgerton universe. While the principal Netflix show explores the romantic ventures of each Bridgerton sibling, Queen Charlotte concentrates on the titular royal’s (India Amarteifio) complicated marriage to King George III (Corey Mylchreest). Like its parent show, the Bridgerton prequel was met with positive responses from critics and audiences, with its success now translated to its official viewership numbers.

With Queen Charlotte completing 91 days of its streaming since premiering on May 4, Netflix has updated its Most Popular TV Show list. By collecting 80.3 million views, the Bridgerton prequel cracks the Top 10, sitting at No. 10. The Top 10 also includes Bridgerton seasons 1 and 2, ranking at No. 4 and No. 8, respectively. This means that in Netflix’s most-watched TV show list in the English language, 33 percent of the spots are held by the Bridgerton universe.

Why The Bridgerton Universe Became One Of Netflix’s Biggest Successes

While Queen Charlotte obtained 80.3 million views alongside 520.6 million hours of viewership, the parent series Bridgerton performed slightly better. Season 1 holds the universe’s best with a whopping 113.3 million views and 929.3 million hours of viewership, while season 2 comes behind with 93.8 million views and 797.2 million hours of viewership. Although this may suggest a small slump with each incoming season or spinoff show, it still indicates the romantic drama’s dominance on Netflix. In contrast, The Witcher has yet to replicate similar success after season 1 ranked No. 9 on the same list, with season 3 even reported performing with disappointing viewership.

Based on the books by Julia Quinn, the Bridgerton universe has earned praise for its diversity due to blind casting, steamy romance, and the high production value of the Regency era. Although Queen Charlotte is an original story in the Netflix franchise, it is evident that the show was able to reproduce that success, applauded for carrying on similar themes and great performances from the young cast. Even then, the prequel show had a far greater critical reception due to its historical reflections of the well-known royals and depiction of their thorny marriage, holding a high 94 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes while Bridgerton averages 82 percent.

Although Queen Charlotte has yet to be renewed for season 2, Bridgerton was already greenlit for two more seasons up to season 4. Netflix is already preparing for Bridgerton season 3’s premiere at some point in late 2023. The first images were already released, with the next romantic spotlight on Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington. With more Bridgerton content not too far away and based upon how the actors’ and writers’ strike could impact its potential premiere date, the question remains if season 3 can maintain this Netflix streak and end up on the Top 10 list.
