‘Bridgerton’ Star Nicola Coughlan Teases Love Stories From Season 4
Bridgerton fans are patiently awaiting the show’s fourth season, but now they have a small idea of what to expect from the period drama in its next chapter.
Nicola Coughlan — aka Lady Whistledown — made the revelation in the season 4 preview. The previous season saw her character Penelope finally escape the friend zone and marry Colin Bridgerton, with whom she welcomed a child. This season finally reveals Penelope as Lady Whistledown.
Coughlan told Good Morning America at this year’s Time 100 Next Gala about the new Bridgerton family, “It’s exciting to play a happily married man with a very cute child,” adding, “So they’re going to go back and just fall in love and have the most wonderful time together.”
However, the next season of Bridgerton focuses on Benedict Bridgerton (played by Luke Thompson) and his love interest Sophie Beak (played by Yerin Ha). Nicola explained that they’re “working hard to be our leads this time around” and “they’re doing a fantastic job.”
But, that’s not all – there’s more to Francesca Bridgerton’s (Hannah Dodd) love story to explore with the arrival of her husband’s cousin, Micaela Stirling (Masali Baduza), who we’ll likely see more of in future seasons. Coughlin told GMA of the plot, “I know as a cast, we’re really hungry for a queer storyline and that representation is very, very important. I just know that Hannah and Masali are going to do a great job. They’re going to do an incredible job. Whenever the time comes, they’ll be ready and they’ll do a great job.”
