Bridgerton season 4 won’t be going the way fans expected — literally.
Showrunner Jess Brownell was asked about what Benedict’s love story with Sophie will be like, and she told the Los Angeles Times earlier this month, “I’ll be upfront: You’re probably going to get another season of Bridgerton. We’ve always lived in this eternal spring in Bridgerton, but we’re playing with the idea of fall for the first time.”
The change comes after the previous three seasons have all taken place in the summer.
“Part of it is story-wise and part of it, honestly, is just for practical reasons because we’re shooting in the fall,” Brownell noted. “It’s still going to be lush and colorful, but just more of a warm fall color scheme rather than a pastel one.”
Everything You Need to Know About ‘Bridgerton’ Season 4 With Benedict as Lead Brownell assured that the show won’t be too different, adding, “There will still be some pastel scenes, so it won’t feel like a completely different show. I’ll let you know that.”
The insight into season 4 – which focuses on Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) love story – comes after Brownell confirmed there will be a two-year wait for new episodes of the hit Netflix series. Season 1 of the period drama debuted in 2020 with Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page) as the main focus before season 2 dropped two years later with Anthony and Kate (Simone Ashley) as the leads.
Season 3, based on the novel Romancing Mr. Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton debuted earlier this year, and Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) have been the focus of the show.
The ‘Bridgerton’ cast and crew explain why the show isn’t in book order “We’re trying to get the seasons out faster, but it takes eight months to shoot and then you have to edit and dub into every language,” Brownell told The Hollywood Reporter in June about the delay.
At the time, Brownell explained that the top priority was to make the best season possible. “The writing takes a long time too, so it’s about two years,” she continued. “We’re trying to speed things up, but somewhere in between.”
The wait hasn’t been easy for fans, but most viewers are eager to see their favorite novel in the Bridgerton series come to life. Quinn recently hinted that Netflix plans to release eight seasons to match all of the books.
Which couples on ‘Bridgerton’ got married in the books?
“I think that’s been going on all along. That’s a long-winded way of saying, ‘Yeah, there are plans [for a season 4 sequel],'” the author told People in July. “But of course, those plans can always change.”
Quinn continued: “One of the things that was really interesting when they actually bought the series was that it was really clear to me that they had put a lot of thought into it. We had to look at everything and be very specific about, ‘These characters are in, these characters aren’t.’ In that process, it was really clear to me that they had a long-term plan and were really thinking about all of the books.”
