Bridgerton Season 3 Finale: Is Lady Whistledown’s Identity Finally Revealed?

Bridgerton season three has finally wrapped up but how did Colin and Penelope’s love story come to a close?

Bridgerton returned this week for season three part two, with fans desperate to know if Penelope Bridgerton will really end up with the man of her dreams.

At the end of the first half of the Netflix romantic drama, Colin Bridgerton (played by Luke Newton) proposed to Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) after a steamy moment in her carriage.

Of course, their relationship wasn’t going to be simple with secrets still to be uncovered and other romances to delve into.

Express.co.uk has all there is to know about how the Bridgerton season three finale played out.

How did Bridgerton season three end?

Colin finds out Penelope’s secret

Penelope needed to put a stop to Cressida Cowper’s (Jessica Madsen) plan of pretending to be Lady Whistledown so she wrote a column to discredit her.

But little did she know that Colin was following her to the publishers and discovering the truth about his future wife being the notorious columnist.

Naturally, he was furious about how she had appeared to target his family over the years and stormed off in a rage, breaking Penelope’s heart.

Colin and Penelope still get married

Despite his anger, Colin agreed to still marry Penelope as it was the right thing to do, given that they had already been intimate.

The ceremony went off without a hitch with the pair sharing a dance at their wedding breakfast so it seemed that he could begin to forgive her.

This was until Queen Charlotte barged in and stated that it was a Bridgerton family member who was really Lady Whistledown.

Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) was able to calm her down for the meantime but this only upset Colin further.

Francesca finds her happy ending

Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) agreed to marry John Stirling (Victor Alli), despite her mum Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) reservations.

She was left even more concerned when they shared that they would be setting up a home in Scotland, far away from the rest of her family.

Nevertheless, Francesca was happy with the idea of a new, quieter lifestyle and enjoyed a romantic wedding at the Bridgerton household.

Eloise leaves for her own adventure

Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) wasn’t sure what to do with herself the entire season, longing for something more than just Mayfair.

So when she heard that Francesca was moving to Scotland, Eloise asked if she could accompany her for a year, giving her a chance to see the world.

Benedict ends his romance with Lady Tilley

Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) had enjoyed sleeping with both Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah True) and her friend Paul in part two.

But he decided it wasn’t going to work in the long-term as Tilley admitted that she wanted something more serious with Benedict, something he wasn’t keen to explore further.

Cressida attempts blackmail – and Penelope reveals all

Cressida was desperate to get away from Mayfair as her parents were trying to marry her off to a horrible old man who wanted at least five children.

It was when she found out that Penelope was the real Lady Whistledown that she saw a way out and blackmailed her, asking for thousands of pounds in exchange for her silence.

Unable to see another alternative, Penelope instead decided to come clean to the Queen and her community, revealing that she was the one behind the scribe all along.

While taken aback, everyone appeared to accept her after the Queen gave the new Mrs Bridgerton the green light to carry on with her gossip column.

As a punishment, Cressida was sent away to live in Wales with her Aunt Jo so it is unclear if she’ll be returning to the ton.
