Bridgerton Fans Might Have to Wait ‘Two Years’ for Season 4: ‘Some of My Best Work’
Dear readers, the wait for Bridgerton season 4 might be longer than expected.

As Polin’s story comes to an end with the second part of season 3, showrunner Jess Brownell shares why fans might have to wait two years for the next installment of the hit Netflix series.

“We’re trying to get the seasons out faster, but it takes eight months to shoot and then you have to edit and then you have to dub into every language,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “And the writing process takes a long time, so we’re working at a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed it up, but it’s somewhere in there.”

When asked if viewers are happy with the direction the series is taking, she replied, “I think it’s hard to say. There are so many different couples. I think one of those couples is going to be very, very fun.”

While she didn’t share which Bridgerton couple will be starring, Brownell teased that she’s “really excited about what we’re writing.”

“We’re getting closer to the end of the season with the writers’ room, with the scripts,” she explained. “And I feel like it’s some of my best work and some of the writers’ room’s best work. We’ve just really clicked and we’re firing on all cylinders, so I can’t wait for the fans to see what we’ve got.”

Luke Newton says he and Nicola Coughlan wanted to “honor” Penelope and Colin’s love in intimate scenes (Exclusive) Bridgerton season 3 ends with the two couples getting married. Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and his on-screen love Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) are married — and have welcomed their first child — despite her being Lady Whistledown, while Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) and her new husband Lord John Stirling (Victor Alli) are preparing to move to Scotland.

Fans also saw Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) explore his sexuality and the appearance of John’s cousin Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza) in the second half of the season. While Michaela doesn’t appear in the Julia Quinn novels, John has a cousin named Michael, who pursues and later marries Francesca after the death of her first husband in the When He Was Wicked novels.

Brownell previously shared that season 3 has hints about who could be in charge in the upcoming season.

“I think there are some clues,” she told Today.com in May. “I don’t know where we’re going. But there are definitely some clues for fans to pick up on and theorize about.”

In April, Brownell shared that future seasons will continue to explore all kinds of love.

“This is a show about love in many forms, and I think we should just bring queer love to the forefront and tell queer stories,” Brownell said in an interview with Pride. “I want to see more queer joy on screen, and that was definitely a priority for me when I took over as showrunner.”

“I can’t say specifically what that will look like this season and the next few seasons,” she continued, “but I will say that I’m excited for fans to see it.”
