Bridgerton fans who thought that Season 2 couldn’t possibly be as steamy and romantic as the Regency-era drama’s inaugural outing were sorely mistaken.
While Simon and Daphne’s Season 1 love affair featured a racy copulation scene in a library (whoa!), Anthony and Kate in Season 2 prolonged their mounting sexual tensions with ravenous staring, heavy breathing, and Eskimo kisses that didn’t manifest into an actual smooch until — ALERT, SPOILERS HENCEFORTH! — Episode 6 of the hit Netflix series. Jonathan Bailey, who stars as Anthony, also won us over with his alter ego’s courtly strut, a mischievous and bedimpled grin, and his breathless delivery of the line: “Do you know all the ways a lady can be seduced? The things I could teach you.”
As swooning viewers know, the viscount’s sultry lesson for Kate (played by Simone Ashley) emerged in the second-to-last episode, when the pair could no longer contain their passions and ripped away at one another’s clothes within the seclusion of a romantic garden gazebo. Not only was Kate’s lilac corset beautiful, but so was their undeniable chemistry. Forbidden fruit, indeed.
But there is more to Anthony than his sex appeal; his vulnerability tugged at our heart strings, too. This includes the eldest Bridgerton son’s minor panic attack over Kate’s bee sting, and that heartfelt chat with his younger brother Gregory about their father. Anthony’s emotionally healing exchanges with his mother, Lady Violet, were equally touching.

When the Game Captures the Hunter
What started out as Kate’s determination to show Anthony she could hunt just as well as any man, turned into an opportunity for Anthony to smell the nape of her neck while teaching her to be a better shot. They also fell in the mud. That’s literally dirty and kinda hot, right?
Handholding and Water Pratfalls
Poor Anthony. First he tried to set Kate up with Thomas Dorset to get rid of her, and then he got jealous of Thomas. After assisting Kate out of her boat, he held on to her hand just a little too long and upon realizing it, snatched back his hand, tripped over Newton the dog and fell into the water with Thomas! As an added bonus, Kate got to admiringly stare at Anthony’s taut muscles when he emerged from the water.
A Couple of Busy Bees
Anthony shoulders the trauma of his father’s death-by-bee sting for most of Season 2. But it is Kate who brings him comfort — and accidental attraction — when her own stinging triggers his latent fears, and she calms him.
Brotherly Love and Guidance
It might’ve been Daphne’s words of wisdom and warning that his siblings pitied him or Kate’s brush with death, but Anthony became a much better big brother by the Season 2 finale. In one of the season’s best moments, he talked to Gregory about their late father and vowed to do a better job of being there for him.
Broken Engagements
The Sheffields proved to be terrible grandparents but they also created the perfect excuse for Anthony to get out of his engagement to Edwina (since he actually wanted Kate). “My father raised me to act with honor, but that honor is hanging by a thread that grows more precarious with every moment I spend in your presence,” Anthony told Kate. “You are the bane of my existence. And the object of all my desires.” Sigh, Kate talked him into going through with the marital farce, which didn’t end well for Edwina or the Queen … until it did.
Anthony and Kate’s First Kiss
Yes, Anthony and Edwina dodged a bullet by not getting married. After the whole affair had imploded, and Edwina realized the truth about Anthony and Kate’s feelings, all that was left was Kate and Anthony’s undeniable attraction, and a rare moment alone to finally and passionately kiss.
When the Sun Came Up
A very sexy and intimate night in the garden gazebo came to a sobering conclusion with the sunrise, and it left Kate feeling guilty for betraying Edwina and hooking up with Anthony. Of course, Edwina and Anthony were no longer together by that point, but that didn’t stop Kate from feeling badly and eventually getting into a horse riding accident that almost killed her. A lovesick Anthony wanted to propose to Kate that morning — but first he had to gallantly save her life.
A Proper Proposal
Anthony had to nearly lose Kate to the Grim Reaper to force him to admit how he truly loved her and didn’t want to live without her. He botched the first proposal when he said he wanted to marry her because he had, um, deflowered her, but the second time was the charm. The happy couple even had Edwina and the Queen’s blessing and a fireworks show!
