Bridgerton fans are eagerly awaiting news of season 4, which is not expected to air until 2026. The regency-era Netflix show, which has proven to be a huge hit with audiences around the world, follows a new sibling of the Bridgerton family each season as they find their true love.
Despite the series’ immense popularity, it still has to break one of Netflix’s toughest records if it wants to give all the siblings their own season. The show, based on the romance novel series of the same name by Julia Quinn, will have to air for eight seasons to achieve this goal.
The Bridgerton family consists of the eight siblings on whom the eight books in the series are based: Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Benedict (Luke Thompson), Colin (Luke Newton), Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Eloise (Claudia Jessie), Francesca (Hannah Dodd), Hyacinth (Florence Hunt) and Gregory (Will Tilston).
Young Gregory, still a child in the show, plays a central role in the final book, which will make up the show’s eighth and final season. However, Bridgerton will have to overcome some impressive odds to do so, as Netflix is notorious for canceling shows long before its TV counterparts.
Even major shows like Stranger Things, The Crown, and Sex Education have never reached the elusive eight-season mark. As ScreenRant reports, Netflix’s longest-running original is Grace and Frankie, the Emmy-nominated sitcom about two women who become friends after their husbands fall in love with each other.
The show, which starred legendary actresses Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, lasted just one season less than Bridgerton required to wrap up its story.
So, thanks to the current one-sibling-per-season structure, it seems unlikely that we’ll see Gregory find his true love.
Fans were recently excited to learn that season 4 will focus on Benedict Bridgerton, as the most laid-back of the family finally meets his match and settles down.
Without giving too much away, Netflix has revealed that Benedict will be seduced by a Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.
Season 4 of the show, which is being run by Jess Brownell, will begin filming eight new episodes in London at a date that’s yet to be confirmed – although we know fans will have to wait until 2026 to see them.
The trailer shows plenty of clips of the Ton enjoying the latest Lady Whistledown, while the caption reads: “Next season’s hottest couple is about to be unmasked. Welcome to the marriage fair, Benedict.”
The first three seasons of Bridgerton focused on siblings Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor), Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Colin (Luke Newton), with the third season also devoting airtime to Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) burgeoning romance.
