Even though there have been five seasons (and four years) of Virgin River on Netflix, time works differently in the television series. The romance drama premiered on December 6, 2019, and it is one of the few Netflix shows to last more than a couple of seasons. Following the first season, about a year has passed between most of the following seasons, with the second part of season 5 premiering on November 30, 2023. So, in the real world, it has been four years since the series first debuted on the streaming service.
Virgin River season 5, part 2 picked up where the finale of part 1 left off, with many characters facing difficult obstacles (like the revelation about Mel’s biological father). Relationships were tested, babies were born, and a man who was previously thought to be dead turned up alive (and was revealed to be the father of the aforementioned babies). The finale set up Virgin River season 6, which Netflix confirmed months before season 5 premiered. But by the time the upcoming season rolls around, it’s unlikely that much time will have passed in the small town since the season 5, part 2 finale.
Only About Six Months Have Passed By Virgin River Season 5’s Ending
During the season 2 premiere, Mel commented on needing two weeks to gather her thoughts following the previous finale. Jack’s recovery time from his gunshot wound is three weeks, meaning that three weeks separate seasons 2 and 3. The season 5, part 1 finale took place on Labor Day, and the part 2 premiere occurred around Christmastime, indicating that about three months had passed. Additionally, Mel has a one-year contract with Doc Mullins that has yet to expire by the season 5 finale. So, putting all this information (and Charmaine’s pregnancy) together, it seems as if the timeline of the first five seasons is six months.
