“Boston Blue” Spinoff Set to Carry the Reagan Legacy Forward This Fall

After fourteen emotionally rich seasons, Blue Bloods has officially passed the baton to its next chapter: a brand-new spinoff titled Boston Blue, premiering Fall 2025 on CBS.

The series will center around Detective Danny Reagan, played by longtime fan-favorite Donnie Wahlberg, as he relocates to Boston to help lead a new team. But make no mistake—this isn’t a full goodbye to the Reagan family. Wahlberg has hinted that Boston Blue will “absolutely carry the legacy” of the original series, with the door left wide open for surprise appearances by characters like Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck), Jamie (Will Estes), or even Erin (Bridget Moynahan).

The cast already includes Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) as Detective Lena Peters, Maggie Lawson (Psych) as Superintendent Sarah Silver, Ernie Hudson as a powerful family figure, and Gloria Reuben as Boston’s district attorney. The show is designed to explore not only crime-solving but also the clash between big-city politics and police procedure, much like its predecessor.

Wahlberg, who called filming the original finale “emotionally exhausting,” says he’s ready to reinvent Danny for a new setting. “Boston Blue is fresh,” he told People. “But it still has heart. Still has family. And still has a Reagan at its core.”
